GEORGE MCCAULEY AND LINDA CHRISTIANSON WOOD FIRING AND HANDS-ON WORKSHOP
November 16-21, 2019
making pots with function as a starting point
This two-part hands-on workshop will focus on an earthenware firing in a small noborigama catenary arch wood kiln, which will fire to cone 3. Through demonstrations, slide lectures, studio work and group discussion we will make pots with function as a starting point, exploring the utilitarian idea and beyond.
Friday: Arrive and settle
Saturday: Glaze, load, and start kiln.
Sunday and Monday: Fire.
Tuesday/Wednesday, 9-5: Hands-on workshop while kiln cools.
Thursday, 9-5: Unloading, cleaning shelves and kiln area.
The course will be suitable for intermediate - advanced levels. We will explore the basics of wood firing in a modest sized catenary arch kiln designed for frequent firing and gaining an understanding of basic wood firing techniques.
All work made during the workshop is the property of the participant. Bisque firing and shipping are available at an extra cost: $50/ 16" box plus shipping.

Accomodations:
6 nights in a shared bunk-room accommodation. Please visit the link or our air bnb, so you can get a feel for our housing; it's rustic but super sweet, kind of like summer camp for adults. Please don't book your room on Airbnb; we'll take care of that once you've paid for the workshop.
We provide bedding, towels, toiletries, if needed, a full kitchen set-up with pots and pans, refrigerator, and in-kitchen dining area.
You are responsible for your meals. Please bring whatever you need to make your stay comfortable. There is a standard refrigerator in the shared kitchen. Note we are about 4 miles from the nearest convenient store. We recommend a stop at the market before your arrival.
Please call or write with questions about the workshop.
Cancellation Policy
If you need to cancel your workshop more than 30 days from the start date, you will receive a refund, less a $75 cancellation fee. Unfortunately, we are unable to issue refunds less than 30 days from the start of the class for cancellations, a missed class, late arrival or early departure for any reason. If the class does not meet the minimum enrollment to run, we reserve the right to cancel. In that case, students will receive a full refund. If your travel plans include airfare or other non-refundable expenses, please check with us about the status of your workshop before you make your purchase. We do our best to alert students to low enrollment one month prior to the start of the workshop.
