MICHAEL KLINE April 17-19, 2020
Join us for three days with Michael Kline for this hands-on workshop diving into the deep well of pottery history and sharing about his 20 years of potting experience with demonstrations, discussions, and plenty of time for making. Michael is known for his fluid brushwork and strong traditional forms. But which came first?
Participants will learn throwing techniques that will help you give scale and volume to your thrown shapes. The class will explore from tiny to XXL and everything in between. Michael will help us find our comfort zone and expand it in both directions as appropriate to the function of the piece.
Michael will also teach a variety of surface treatments including brushwork with pigmented wax resists and slips, Korean sanggam inlay, rope texture, and more. Participants will use stoneware [ and/or ??? ] bodies.
The class will also discuss narratives of being potters in the 21st century including using the internet to help share your story, and help market and sell. Tips and techniques not just for throwing but for social media and online sales platforms are important potter's tools that will be covered.
This multiple day workshop includes housing and shared kitchen and bathroom accommodations. See the guesthouse page for details on the bunkhouse experience. Please visit the guest artist workshops page to see more details for this workshop.
Eight participants are needed for this workshop to run. In the event of cancellation, a full refund will be given. Please see the Cancellation Policy.
