Five Throwing Sessions-Socially safe-Covid aware

We will meet four times to focus on wheel work and to learn about the properties of clay, some history, and the extraordinary nature of this elemental material. The fifth class will be a glazing class. Classes are 2.5  hrs each. We will learn about centering and practice throwing technique. Hand building and sculpture are also an option.

Most glazes are made here at the studio by me and they are ready for use.

Because meeting in large groups for an extended period of time might make folks uncomfortable, I feel it’s necessary to host small classes in the studio. a this time I'm limiting the classes to five. I take serious precautions; everyone must be vaccinated. The studio is cleaned thoroughly between student visits, and we observe social distancing as much as we can .

Vaccination is required for group classes. If you're not vaccinated and would like to take a class or visit for a retreat, let's make a plan.

If at any time, you're unable to attend a class, we will reschedule.

RAKU: FOUR SESSIONS

In this four session class we will learn about the art of Raku firing. This is a dynamic process in which work is removed from the kiln at bright red heat and subjected to post-firing reduction (carbon exposure) by being placed in containers of combustible materials, which blackens raw clay and causes crazing in the glaze surface.

We will enjoy two sessions (2.5 hours each) of hand making small objects and two sessions (2.5 hours each) of firing while learning about the aesthetic of Raku. This class is designed for quiet enjoyment of clay. We pinch, smooth, and coax the clay into objects made for meditation and slow enjoyment. After each firing session, you will take your work home with you to enjoy for years to come.

The studio is committed to your safety and health. Keeping Covid 19 in mind, this class will require masks and thoughtful social distancing until everyone is vaccinated.
